Privacy Policy

Reflect is a macOS app for room correction. This Privacy Policy explains what data is collected, what stays on your Mac, and how you can contact me.

Summary

Reflect is built to process your audio and room measurements locally on your Mac.

The app never uploads your audio, microphone recordings, or listening data. Room measurements and generated filters leave your Mac only if you choose to contribute them to the 100 Rooms project, described below.

What Reflect processes locally

Reflect may use your Mac microphone or selected audio input when you run a measurement. This is used to measure your speaker and room response and generate correction filters.

This processing happens locally on your Mac.

Reflect may also store app settings locally, such as selected output device, imported filters, generated filters, correction settings, and basic preferences. These stay on your Mac unless you choose to share them.

100 Rooms measurement sharing

100 Rooms is an optional research project that tests Reflect's room correction in real rooms. It is off until you choose it. Reflect asks once, after a successful measurement, and you can change your choice at any time in Reflect's settings. This choice is separate from beta diagnostics: enabling diagnostics never shares measurements.

If you choose to contribute, Reflect sends each successful measurement to the Reflect API at api.reflectformac.com: the measured frequency response, room impulse responses calculated from the sweep (not recordings), the generated filters, measurement quality and settings, the time of the measurement, the app version and release channel, a random measurement ID, and a random profile ID generated on your Mac that groups measurements from the same Reflect installation.

For each accepted measurement, the Reflect API records a product analytics event in PostHog with the measurement ID, a pseudonymous profile ID (a one-way hash of the profile ID), the app, algorithm, and schema versions, and the release channel. It contains no acoustic data. This is used to count contributions and check that uploads arrive.

Reflect never sends microphone recordings, audio, device names or device IDs, filenames or file paths, your name, email address, or licence information with a measurement. Imported REW filter files are never shared.

While you have not decided yet, Reflect keeps your latest measurement on your Mac so it can offer it for sharing later. Choosing Keep private deletes that copy and stops uploads. Turning sharing off deletes measurements that were queued but not yet sent. Measurements already shared are not deleted automatically; see Data retention for how to request deletion.

What the beta signup collects

If you join the beta list, the signup form collects:

  • Email address
  • Basic signup metadata such as referrer and UTM campaign fields
  • A PostHog browser identifier used to understand signup conversion

This information is used to send beta updates, identify confirmed beta-list subscribers for the launch discount, and understand which signup sources are working. The signup form does not send your email address to PostHog.

Feedback and support

If you send feedback or contact support, I may receive the information you choose to include, such as your macOS version, Mac model, audio device, microphone type, screenshots, logs, or a description of the issue.

Please do not send private information or audio files unless they are needed for debugging and you are comfortable sharing them.

Analytics

Reflect may use basic website analytics to understand visits, beta signup conversion, and which pages are useful.

The goal is to improve the website and beta process, not to track individual listening behavior.

Reflect does not collect what you listen to.

Optional beta diagnostics

Reflect may send privacy-respecting, pseudonymous diagnostics to the Reflect API at api.reflectformac.com when diagnostics are enabled. These events help us understand whether onboarding, permissions, measurement, REW import, and correction start worked during beta.

Diagnostics use a random pseudonymous install ID generated locally. The ID is not derived from your hardware, Apple ID, email address, license key, or device identifiers.

Diagnostics may include safe counts or categories, such as filter count, filter source, app version, release channel, macOS major version, and fixed failure categories. They do not include names, emails, license keys, audio content, room measurements, impulse responses, frequency responses, filter files, filter coefficients, REW files, device fingerprints, Mac computer names, audio device names, device UIDs, filenames, file paths, raw support diagnostics, raw error messages, or listening history.

If you disable diagnostics in Reflect, the app deletes queued diagnostics events, stops sending diagnostics, does not send a final opt-out event, and does not send previously saved events even if you choose to enable diagnostics again later.

If you have enabled diagnostics and answer the 100 Rooms question, the diagnostics event for that answer includes the random measurement ID and the same pseudonymous profile ID. This lets product analytics connect your answer to a measurement you chose to share, without sending the profile ID itself. It is never combined with your email address.

Infrastructure providers such as Railway or Cloudflare may temporarily process IP addresses as part of normal request handling and security logs. Reflect does not store IP addresses in its application database, does not expose infrastructure IP logs in product analytics, and does not join IP addresses to diagnostics IDs.

Future licence activation

When paid licences are introduced, Reflect may contact the Reflect API to activate or validate a licence. Licence activation will be separate from optional beta diagnostics and will have its own privacy terms before release.

Payments

Reflect is free during beta.

If paid licences are introduced later, payments may be handled by a third-party payment provider. That provider will process payment details according to its own privacy policy.

Reflect does not store your full payment card details.

Data sharing

I do not sell your data.

I may use third-party services for forms, email, analytics, feedback, hosting, and payments. These services only receive the information needed to provide their function.

Data retention

Beta signup and support information may be kept while Reflect is in beta and for a reasonable period afterward so I can follow up, understand recurring issues, and improve the app.

You can ask me to delete your beta signup or support information.

Shared 100 Rooms measurements are kept for the duration of the research project to benchmark and improve room correction. They are not linked to your name or email address, so to request deletion, email me the approximate date and time of the measurement and I will remove the matching records.

Your choices

You can:

  • Choose not to join the beta
  • Disable beta diagnostics in Reflect settings
  • Choose whether to contribute measurements to 100 Rooms, and change that choice in Reflect settings
  • Ask for shared 100 Rooms measurements to be deleted
  • Stop using Reflect at any time
  • Delete Reflect from your Mac
  • Ask for your beta signup or support information to be deleted
  • Choose what information you include in feedback
